This challenge is now closed. The estimated date for data release to the research community is anticipated to be in autumn 2014. The website will then be updated to allow new segmentation results to be uploaded for evaluation and comparison to previous methods.
The following journal paper, summarising the methods, findings, and conclusions of the challenge has been accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging:
Rueda et al. Evaluation and Comparison of Current Fetal Ultrasound Image Segmentation Methods for Biometric Measurements: A Grand Challenge. IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging 2013. In press.
Challenge US: Biometric Measurements from Fetal Ultrasound Images is a segmentation challenge to be held in conjunction and with the support of the International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) 2012.
The challenge consists of automatically segmenting anatomical structures to measure standard obstetric biometric parameters, from 2D fetal ultrasound images taken on fetuses at different gestational ages (21 weeks, 28 weeks, and 33 weeks).
Three things need to be submitted: the segmentation results, the derived measurements, and an extended abstract (2 pages maximum) explaining the methodology used.
The challenge is open to teams from academia and industry. Published methods can also be submitted.
Each team will need to register to have access to the data, which will be available only within this challenge.
The results from each team will be automatically compared to the ground truth, obtained from expert manual segmentations and measurements. These will be ranked and published in the website (cf. Results) without disclosing the members of each team, which will be disclosed during the workshop.
From all the methods submitted, some teams will be invited to present their work at the workshop on the 2nd May 2012 in the form of an oral or poster presentation.
The final results from this challenge will be summarised to a journal paper and submitted to a high impact journal, presenting and comparing all automatic segmentation methods existing to achieve fetal biometric measurements. The journal paper will be written by the organisers of the challenge and co-authored by all teams contributing to the workshop.
