Abstract:

In this talk I will present the work of the Bristol Interaction and Graphics group is creating haptic sensations through the use of focused ultrasound. Using a phased array of ultrasound transducers we are able to create acoustic forces that can felt by a human. We demonstrate our approach both in air and through skin. I will elaborate on our approach and provide some examples of what we can do with it.

Bio:

Sriram Subramanian is a Professor of Human-computer Interaction at the University of Bristol with a research interests in exploring new forms of interactive systems. He is specifically interested in rich and expressive input combining multi-touch, haptics and touchless gestures. Before joining the University of Bristol, he worked as a senior scientist at Philips Research Netherlands and as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. You can find more details of his research interests at his groups page http://big.cs.bris.ac.uk
