Prizes and Awards

We would like to congratulate our colleagues on their success in winning these prestigious awards.
  • Dr Amalia Cifor was awarded the Best Oral Presentation Award at the Cancer Session at the 2013 Annual Networking Event, Medical Engineering Initiative, supported by the Wellcome Trust and the EPSRC.
  • Mr David Springer was awarded the Best Poster Award at the Devices and Biosensors Session at the 2013 Annual Networking Event, Medical Engineering Initiative, supported by the Wellcome Trust and the EPSRC.
  • Miss Susan Graham was awarded the Best Poster Award at the Cancer Session at the 2013 Annual Networking Event, Medical Engineering Initiative, supported by the Wellcome Trust and the EPSRC.
  • Dr David Clifton has been awarded a prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship.
  • Prof. Alison Noble was awarded an OBE for services to Science and Engineering in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in June 2013.
  • Prof. Alison Noble was appointed President of the MICCAI society.
  • Dr Kopuri, Dr Rueda, Dr Knight, Dr McCormick, Prof. Noble, Dr Papageorgiou and Dr Sullivan were awarded the oral poster with distinction at the ESPGHAN 2013, Nutrition, Metabolism and Experimental Approaches, London, U.K.
  • Prof. Alison Noble became a fellow of MICCAI society, 2012.
  • Dr Sylvia Rueda was awarded the Best Poster Award at the Biocensors and Imaging/Minimally Invasive Techniques at the Annual Networking Event, Medical Engineering Initiative supported by the Wellcome Trust and the EPSRC.
  • Dr Jiayao Ma and Dr Jianhua Zhai were awarded the Overall Poster Award at the Annual Networking Event, Medical Engineering Initiative supported by the Wellcome Trust and the EPSRC.
  • Dr Caroline Knight won Annual Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Student Best Presentation Prize 2012.
  • Prof. Lionel Tarassenko was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his service to Engineering in the 2012 New Year Honours List.
  • Prof. Constantin-C. Coussios was awarded he 2012 R Bruce Lindsay Award of the Acoustical Society of America, for contributions to biomedical ultrasound.
  • Prof. Constantin-C. Coussios was awarded the 2012 Frederic Lizzi Award by the International Society for Therapeutic Ultrasound, for the development of passive acoustic mapping for real-time monitoring of ultrasound.
  • Dr Piotr Orlowski received the award of a Career Development Fellowship in Imaging, 2012-2016, Keble College, Oxford.
  • Dr David Meredith won the prize for best poster in group for his poster entitled "Continuous Physiological Monitoring of IDH-prone Haemodialysis Patients" at the British Renal Society Conference in Manchester on the 3rd of May 2012.
  • Dr David Clifton (Jesus College) was awarded the J. A. Lodge prize by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), which is given each year in memory of James Alec Lodge, in recognition of the outstanding work and contribution of an early-career biomedical engineer.
  • Dr Jianhua Zhai received the Best Scientific Poster Award for his poster entitled "Pulse Force measurement during interventional radiological procedures" by the British Society Of Internventional Radiology on 5th November 2010.
  • Dr Thomas Brennan won the University Mobile Healthcare Challenge for the best R&D project at the Mobile Healthcare Industry Summit in September 2010.
  • Dr David Clifton has been awarded the Abbey-Santander Doctoral Prize for Excellence in publication pertaining to European Healthcare.
  • Dr David Clifton, Dr Samuel Hugueny and Prof. Lionel Tarassenko won the IEEE BIOSTEC 2010 Best paper.
  • Dr Michael Chappell became a Junior Fellow of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM). He also won a poster prize for his poster about diffusion and perfusion.
  • Dr John Stuart-Brittain, Prof. John Stein and Prof. Tipu Aziz won the 7th Cluster Headache Award for the best conference paper at the International Annual Convention on Cluster Headache.
  • Dr Constantin-C. Coussios became the youngest Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America in November 2009 for his contributions to therapeutic ultrasound. Founded in 1929, the Society has more than 7500 members. Of its 904 fellows, only 200 are based outside the US and 39 in the UK.
  • Dr Samuel Hugueny, Dr David Clifton and Prof. Lionel Tarassenko were awarded the 2010 IET William James award for their co-authored paper 'Probabilistic Patient Monitoring'.
  • Dr David Clifton and Prof. Lionel Tarassenko were awarded the Best Paper prize at the 39th International Renal Care Conference for their co-authored paper 'Integrated Vital Sign Monitoring of Haemodialysis Patients'.
