Michael Newsome

DPhil Student (2nd Year)

Academic BackgroundMichael Newsome 2

Michael graduated from the University of Oxford with a first in Engineering Science, winning the Qualcomm Prize for Best Overall Performance in Biomedical Engineering Papers. His final year MEng project (supervised by Professor Chris MacMinn) examined the transport of nutrients in the intervertebral disc, with a particular focus on how differing sleep periods affected the advective transport of solutes.

Before joining BUBBL, Michael undertook civil and mechanical engineering industrial placements with Atkins PLC and Rolls-Royce respectively. He is a member of St Catherine's College and a college lecturer in Engineering Science at Worcester College, giving tutorials in structures, materials and dynamics.

Michael joined BUBBL in October 2019, under the supervision of Professor Constantin Coussios and Professor Stephen Payne. His DPhil project aims to find ways to optimise the delivery of drugs into tumours by creating a mathematical model of the process.
