Dr Lester Barnsley
Lester graduated with a Bachelor of Photonics and Nanoscience (Honours) at Griffith University, in Queensland, Australia, followed by a PhD in physics at Griffith University in 2012. His primary research interest during his PhD project was in the magnetic behaviour, at low temperature, of systems with magnetically disordered components, including spin glasses and exchange bias materials. He was responsible for commissioning a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) for measuring magnetic samples in extreme sample environments, and investigated the analogues between exchange bias and spin glass magnetic materials in concentrated, “mictomagnetic” CuMn.
At BUBBL, Lester will be designing and commissioning a magnetic array system for confining magnetic microbubbles using high gradient magnetic field profiles.
