Background

Jim is Head of the IBME Workshop and has considerable engineering expertise and knowledge gained from his time at Austin Rover, Oxford Instruments and the University of Oxford.

Jim commenced his career with an apprenticeship at Austin Rover and during this time, won the South West region Press Tool making in the Best of British Engineering skill competition. After completing his apprenticeship, Jim joined Oxford Instruments within their Ultra Low Temperature department. During his time there, he often travelled abroad setting up equipment in Universities and repairing fridge inserts.

In 2004, Jim joined the University of Oxford within the Medical Engineering Unit (now the IBME). Together with David Salisbury, the IBME Workshop offers academics and students a consultation and advice service, together with expertise in manufacturing advice and design in a wide range of materials.

Jim is a Level 2 badminton coach and keen player as well as having been a football Referee for 16 years and is also an annual participant in his village's annual pram race.
