National Women in Engineering Day 23rd June 2014

National Women in Engineering Day has been set up by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) to celebrate its 95th anniversary. It takes place on 23 June 2014. The aim is to celebrate the work that women do in engineering, and to showcase the great engineering careers that are available for girls.

Lubbock Day 2014: Tuesday, 13th May

Dr Kinam Kim, President of the Semiconductor Memory Business, the flagship component business of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.(SEC), delivered the 40th Maurice Lubbock Memorial Lecture on 13th May, which was titled: “Technology innovations revolutionising society”. For the first time the Department of Engineering Science held the Lubbock Lecture in the University of Oxford’s new Mathematical Institute. Over 250 representatives from industry, academia, the University’s alumni community, government, and schools from Oxfordshire attended.

Oxford-Technikos venture capital deal yields tenth Isis Innovation spin-out

The 2006 deal in which London-based venture capital fund Technikos provided £12m for the University of Oxford’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBME) in return for half of the University’s equity in new companies based on IBME intellectual property, has notched up its tenth spin-out company.

Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering

Congratulations to Professor Zhanfeng Cui, FREng (the Department’s Donald Pollock Professor of Chemical Engineering, Director of the Oxford Centre for Tissue Engineering and Bioprocessing, and Fellow of Hertford College) who has been elected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). He recently received this prestigious award at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington DC.
